MGMA outlines physician group practice priorities in CMS’ proposed direct contracting model
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, the Medical Group Management Association responded to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation Request for Information on Direct Provider Contracting (DPC) models.
“The proposed DPC model has potential to increase opportunities for physician group practices to participate in Advanced APMs,” said Anders Gilberg, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs. “Through this model, it’s clear that CMS is working towards recognizing innovative care delivery and payment reforms in the marketplace and encouraging physician-led, value-based transformation.”
MGMA highlights several key points for the Innovation Center to consider when developing the DPC model framework—particularly reducing paperwork burden, enhancing access to data, establishing a family of DPC models with attainable performance metrics, and offering upfront investment support to physician group practices.
“If these issue areas are not carefully considered, the DPC model could drive further consolidation among healthcare providers while forcing independent practices out of business–actions which restrict patient access to care,” argued Gilberg.
Furthermore, MGMA urges the Innovation Center to keep stakeholders engaged throughout the DPC model development process.
