Pandemic efforts to help medical practices survive and securing $175 billion for providers leads MGMA to be a 2020 Power of the A Silver Award Winner
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (August 12, 2020) – Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) is among a select group of associations to be recognized as a 2020 Power of the A Silver Award Winner in the Power of Advocacy category for its efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and the support and resources provided to members and the healthcare industry during the difficult year.
“Congratulations to MGMA on being named among the very best organizations that go above and beyond their tax-exempt purpose to improve society and our quality of life in America and abroad,” said ASAE President and CEO Susan Robertson, CAE. “This has been a very trying year for associations, but even amid a months-long pandemic, associations are proving that positive change can happen. More than ever, the Power of Associations is on full display in this year’s award-winning programs, providing tangible evidence that associations will help lead the way toward economic and societal recovery in the months ahead.”
MGMA’s Government Affairs team, based in Washington D.C., has long advocated for the interests of medical practices and the betterment of healthcare, the unique and unprecedented circumstances presented by COVID-19 called for unique and unprecedented advocacy efforts. Medical practices of all sizes and specialties have suffered financially from the pandemic, which required the Government Affairs team to carefully and effectively advocate for providers on the frontlines, specialties with low patient volumes, small businesses, and hospital-owned practices. By leveraging MGMA member experiences through grassroots efforts and our COVID-19 Financial Impact report, MGMA secured over $175 billion for providers through the Provider Relief fund as well as sufficient small business funding.
“By building grassroots campaigns, securing financial assistance for our members in their time of need and helping them navigate funding options, in addition to providing crucial resources to help them through these hardships, we have achieved our mission of providing medical practices with the necessary insights, solutions, and advocacy to survive and thrive amid and beyond the pandemic,” said Halee Fischer-Wright, MD, MMM, FAAP, FACMPE, president and CEO of MGMA. “This award is a symbol of our team’s hard work and effort to help our members, and I’m so proud of them and what they have accomplished this year.”
