MGMA Statement on the Federal Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) Operations Final Rule
    Anders Gilberg
    Senior Vice President, Government Affairs
    Medical Group Management Association

"For too long, the Federal Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) process has imposed significant administrative and financial burdens on medical groups seeking to resolve out-of-network payment disputes. Today's rule takes important steps to change that. Cutting the administrative fee from $115 to just $15 per party removes a real barrier to access to the IDR process — particularly for smaller practices. Requiring health plans to clearly indicate whether a claim is subject to IDR will bring greater transparency and help eliminate the costly problem of ineligible claim submissions. We will continue to analyze the full rule in the days ahead, but MGMA is encouraged by these commonsense reforms. We remain committed to working with the administration to build an IDR process that is efficient, equitable, and accessible for the medical groups and patients who depend on it."

    About MGMA

Founded in 1926, the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) is the nation's largest association focused on the business of medical practice management. MGMA consists of 15,000 group medical practices ranging from small private medical practices to large national health systems representing more than 350,000 physicians. MGMA helps nearly 60,000 medical practice leaders and the healthcare community solve the business challenges of running practices so that they can focus on providing outstanding patient care. Specifically, MGMA helps its members innovate and improve profitability and financial sustainability, and it provides the gold standard on industry benchmarks such as physician compensation. The association also advocates extensively on its members' behalf on national regulatory and policy issues.
