MGMA Statement on the Introduction of the SURS Extension Act

“MGMA supports the introduction of the SURS Extension Act to extend the Quality Payment Program (QPP) Small, Underserved, and Rural Support (SURS) program which provides technical assistance to smaller and rural group practices in need, subsequently helping offset the costs of participation in the program. No medical group practice should be penalized under the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) due to challenges with reporting under the program, especially those in medically underserved areas who often face dangerously slim financial margins. Small practices are already more likely to receive a neutral or negative payment adjustment under MIPS; we cannot take away the critical technical assistance that supports these vulnerable practices by helping them navigate the complex and ever-changing regulations. Congress must act now before QPP-SURS expires this month.”
