MGMA statement on Congress' COVID-19 Stimulus Package

    Anders Gilberg
    Senior Vice President, Government Affairs
    Medical Group Management Association

"The government spending and coronavirus relief package passed by Congress late last night contains numerous provisions advocated for by MGMA and important to medical group practices. The $3 billion injection into the Medicare physician fee schedule will mitigate MGMA-opposed payment cuts to many physician specialties set to begin on Jan. 1. The final surprise billing compromise, which includes arbitration and prohibits consideration of government-set rates to resolve payment disputes, is a welcome improvement over previous proposals. MGMA strongly supports delaying reinstatement of the 2% Medicare sequestration cuts, an arbitrary tax on medical practices. We appreciate Congress strengthening incentives for participation in value-based payment models by freezing the thresholds qualifying participants must achieve to realize financial and other benefits."
