In this special fourth episode of BYOB: The Healthcare Podcast, the team prepares for their trip to San Diego to speak at the MGMA Medical Practice Excellence Leaders Conference taking place October 24th through the 27th. They welcome two special guests, Craig Wiberg which helped plan much of the educational content for the conference, and Lindsay Zimmerman who will be speaking at the conference along with the trio. Craig is a Senior Editor at MGMA and he shares with the group what listeners can expect at the conference, the genesis of one of the longest-standing conferences in healthcare, and how he works to prepare the content and sessions that attendees will partake in San Diego.

Lindsay Zimmerman is the principal guest on the fourth episode of BYOB: The Healthcare Podcast. Lindsay is a Managing Principal of Research and Engagement at Upfront Healthcare Services in Chicago. Upfront works to proactively reassure and direct patients to the safest and most relevant care options within the health industry.

Craig Wiberg – Senior Editor at MGMA

    Lindsay Zimmerman – Upfront Healthcare

The group invites their guest, Lindsay Zimmerman, to share how her path in healthcare has allowed her to provide solutions across the public health landscape. She shares how her time working in Chicago has impacted the communities she’s worked with and how Upfront faces some of the toughest challenges in patient care. The crew asked Lindsay the following questions:

    1. What motivated you to pursue an MPH and what brought you into public health?
    2. What led you to decide to get a Ph.D. after finishing your MPH?
    3. Describe your experience pursuing an informatics Ph.D. at Northwestern University?
    4. Your dissertation was about the relationship between the social determinants of health and cardiovascular health using machine learning techniques. Can you give us a high-level summary of what your research entailed?
    5. Can you tell us about Upfront and the work you lead there?
    6. What is your drink of choice? (Alcoholic or non-alcoholic) – BYOB recurring question for guests

Lindsay’s unique background, her work in Chicago with county hospitals, and the great work that she does now at Upfront represent a great path for aspiring healthcare leaders who are looking to dive deep into public health.
