This paper explores the options available to Hospitalist Medicine teams to manage and deal with significant patient surge. The paper will describe options to predicate staffing needs using historical seasonal treading tools and find solutions that not only support predictive staffing models, but also contracting and patient staffing ratios. Cost comparisons are included to support the understanding of model options and critical success factors to consider when developing and managing staffing models for surge demand.
