Physician retention and recruitment are more challenging than ever, and cash compensation alone is no longer enough. Practices must provide additional tax-deferred savings opportunities while managing risk for both physicians and organizations.

In this session, participants will explore how innovative retirement plan design can elevate compensation packages and make medical groups a destination for top talent. The discussion will include a real-world case study of a medical group that successfully used benefits strategy to attract leading physicians, while strengthening long-term financial sustainability.

This 60-minute webinar will provide you with the knowledge to:

    • Analyze how benefits serve as a retention tool beyond salary to improve loyalty and reduce turnover
    • Evaluate strategies to balance competitive benefits with cost control
    • Apply case study insights to strengthen benefits design and enhance your employer brand

    John Kleiser
    Actuarial Practice Leader, October Three

John Kleiser is a member of the actuarial consulting team, part of the senior leadership for October Three, and heads up our Flexible Deferral Plan practice. During John’s career he has had experience working with qualified retirement plans of all types, serving as actuary for many large corporate organizations. For the last 12 years, John has worked almost exclusively with professional service firms to design, implement and service a new style of defined benefit plan. John is considered one of the country’s leading experts on retirement plans for large professional service firms, especially those in the legal community. John feels passionately that plan design must fit the organization and, as it applies in particular to professional service firms, there is little reason for a firm or its owners to take on undue risk on account of inappropriate plan design. He is committed to bringing intelligent and appropriate designs into this market — plans that creatively solve issues of adequacy, pension volatility and wealth accumulation.

John is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) and an Enrolled Actuary (EA) under ERISA. John received a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Notre Dame. John began his career with Towers Perrin and spent time in their Chicago, Cincinnati and Dallas offices before joining CCA Strategies in 1999 where he opened and led the Dallas office. John was Vice President at JPMorgan after the acquisition of CCA in 2006 and at JPMorgan he led the defined benefit practice focused on professional service firms.

    Brian Fox
Partner and Consulting Actuary, October Three

Brian Fox is a Partner and member of the actuarial consulting team. Brian began his actuarial career in 2010 after a more ‘non-traditional’ passage. Brian says it took him several attempts to discover his true passion…but he has certainly seemed to find it in the actuarial field. His original B.A. was earned in psychology at Boston College. He then worked with troubled youth and later taught English as a second language in Thailand. Afterwards, Brian went back to school to study chemistry. While working on his doctorate program at the University of California, San Diego Brian learned about actuarial science and was hooked. These experiences, among others, make him well-suited for the consulting side of the actuarial industry.

Brian is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA), and an Enrolled Actuary (EA) and has been involved with numerous client teams, working with large not-for-profit organizations as well as professional service firms. He says the learning cannot come fast enough as he has already been involved with valuations, nondiscrimination testing, and even plan design. Meeting our clients’ needs creatively and flexibly with out-of-the-box thinking is what excites him about work each day.
