ICD-10-CM Coding Updates for FY 2023, effective Oct. 1, 2022This is a summary of updates made to ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting for fiscal year (FY) 2023, effective Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2023. Changes to narratives or explanations impacting guidelines appear in bold text. Revisions made on section headings noted as “See Section” and appear in italics.

There are new section headings and will appear in bold and italics as “See Section”. Carefully review FY 2023 guideline updates as it can impact appropriate coding and billing practices.

Veronica Bradley, CPC, CPMA, is a Senior Industry Advisor with MGMA and is CPC and CPMA certified. She has over 20 years’ experience in medical coding and auditing in various specialties. Veronica received a bachelor’s degree from Regis University in Denver, Colorado in Health Information Management with a minor in Healthcare Administration. In her free time, Veronica appreciates spending time with her family enjoying the beautiful Colorado scenery.
