Why did you decide to get involved with MGMA?
I discovered a vast network of experts who were not shy about sharing knowledge who inspired me to keep driving healthcare innovation. I was drawn to the Certified Medical Practice Executive as the credential applies across the full spectrum of healthcare administration and is not limited to practice management.
What do you find most rewarding about volunteering for MGMA?
Coaching members to realize and achieve their full potential in a highly complex profession is extremely rewarding.
How did you decide that practice management was the career for you?
The Chief of Staff encouraged me to apply for a Fellowship in Health Plans Management after serving five years in a variety of healthcare administrator positions. During the fellowship, I realized daily our actions as practice managers truly have a global impact on the organization and the patients we treat.
What is the best tip you give to people who are just starting a career in practice management?
Remain calm under pressure. Practice Managers set the tone of staff and must remain calm under pressure while resolving any conflict or situation that may unexpectedly arise.
What is your favorite book or website or resource for practice managers?
Reading a variety of leadership books and journals helps keep me current on trends and topics in a variety of industries.
How do you relax after a busy work week?
Bicycle riding and other forms of exercise to relieve mild tension.
What is your top tip for maintaining work/life balance?
Find a balance that works for you while not neglecting any major part of your life’s balance. Small improvements will pay big dividends over time.
