ACMPE’s certification exams are based on the Body of Knowledge for Medical Practice Management. These six domains reflect the key competencies of medical practice executives:

How to Complete Your Certification Requirements
To become board certified, you must meet three key milestones:
1. Complete the Required Examinations
- Multiple-Choice Exam ($167)
A 175-question exam designed to assess your foundational knowledge of group practice management. Time limit: 3 hours, 15 minutes. - Scenario-Based Exam ($167)
Open to candidates with verified education/experience. A 90-question test with scenario-based multiple-choice and multi-select questions designed to assess real-world problem-solving.

2. Earn 50 Continuing Education (CE) Hours
Continuing education supports lifelong learning, professional development, and staying current in medical practice management.
- 50 CE hours total
- At least 30 hours must be from MGMA or affiliated organizations
- Of those 30, at least 12 must be delivered live (not on-demand)
- CE can be earned up to 3 years prior to your application purchase date
3. Receive Final Board Approval
Once your exams and CE are complete:
- Submit for board review (requirements can be completed in any order)
- You have 3 years from your application purchase date to complete all requirements
- If not completed within 3 years, you must reapply
