Healthcare is a demanding field. The goals of the Triple Aim — better individual care, better population health and lower per-capita costs — have physicians often working harder and longer with fewer resources, creating an environment conducive to burnout.
Burnout affects the physician, the physician’s colleagues, the organization and patients, not to mention a physician’s family and loved ones. Successful healthcare leaders and organizations must be able to recognize the signs of burnout, understand the causes, reduce it and create strategies to eliminate it.
