    Terry Cole

    Administrator

    United States Drug Enforcement Administration

    8701 Morrissette Drive

    Springfield, VA 22152

    Dear Administrator Cole:

Congratulations on your recent confirmation to serve as the Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). We write to request your leadership in ensuring that millions of Americans continue to have access to medically necessary health care through telemedicine after the current access deadline of December 31, 2025.

As you know, in 2018 President Trump signed into law the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Act, which included a provisions requiring the Attorney General, in consultation with the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), to, within one year, promulgate final regulations to ensure safe access to controlled substances through telemedicine. Subsequently, the DEA under the Trump Administration acted to allow medically necessary controlled substances via telemedicine as part of its broader telehealth expansion.
