WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GET INVOLVED WITH MGMA?

I was looking for an opportunity to network with others in the physician management arena; to be able to expand my knowledge base.

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST REWARDING ABOUT VOLUNTEERING FOR MGMA?

Being an MGMA member, participating in data submission, and attending national MGMA conferences has been a great opportunity to connect with others and build on my knowledge base. Volunteering is a small gesture to give back to a great organization that provides so much for its members.

HOW DID YOU DECIDE PRACTICE MANAGEMENT WAS THE CAREER FOR YOU?

I was looking for a career that had longevity and healthcare was the logical career path. I started my career working on the hospital side and had the opportunity to transition to the medical office. I like the broad scope of what we do in practice management, the business aspect, and the more one-on-one interaction with the staff and providers.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIP YOU GIVE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST STARTING A CAREER IN PRACTICE MANAGEMENT?

Realize no one knows everything. Network with as many resources as possible and consider them your go-to toolbox when you have a challenge or opportunity that is outside your area of expertise.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK OR WEBSITE OR RESOURCE FOR PRACTICE MANAGERS?

I have two favorite books, QBQ – The Question Behind the Question and People First. My favorite website or resource has to be MGMA. The amount of information, statistical data, white papers, and publications are endless.

HOW DO YOU RELAX AFTER A BUSY WEEK?

I enjoy fishing and hunting, I am an amateur knife maker, and have just started playing golf again after 30 years.

WHAT IS YOUR TOP TIP FOR MAINTAINING WORK/LIFE BALANCE?

This one is difficult for me because of my passion and love for my work. I frequently have to remind myself that diversity is important for my mental health and physical wellbeing.
