April Spotlight

In honor of Volunteer Month, each of our MGMA State Affiliates has nominated a volunteer from their state who has gone above and beyond this past year

Please take a moment to read through all of our distinguished volunteers for April!

Amy Fisher, Alabama:

Amy is the current President of Alabama MGMA and has served on the board of directors for seven years. She understands our member's needs and leads our association with humility and grace.

Debbie Stearns, CPA, CMPE, Florida:
Debbie Stearns is the current Immediate Past President of the Florida MGMA Board of Directors. Debbie was our president during 2020 and stepped up for another term to provide consistency during a time when our chapter needed it.  We appreciate her leadership and guidance during a very difficult few years.

Mike Gebel, Georgia:

Mike Gebel has been a board member for Georgia MGMA since 2016, serving as Legislative Liaison, Third-Party Payer, Director, Vice President and President, and has represented Georgia MGMA on several national MGMA committees. He is a tremendous asset to our organization and serves our members well. Georgia MGMA members are lucky to have Mike working with and for us and we appreciate his kind and fair leadership.

Sara Lords, MHA, Idaho:

As Idaho MGMA's President last year, Sara led the board in making difficult decisions through another year of the pandemic, including canceling the IMGMA conference for the second year in a row. Still, her confident, calm and thoughtful manner helped us continue to offer our standard number of monthly educations and newsletters, the creation of a new membership committee and increased IMGMA membership. She fulfilled her role with IMGMA’s long-term goals in mind, and we greatly appreciated her leadership.

Cathy Harte, Illinois:

Cathy Harte is a prime example of a servant volunteer leader with Illinois MGMA. As president-elect, she helped guide the organization through many pandemic-related challenges. Now, as ILMGMA President, she is leading through a management transition and consequent process changes and improvements. Her professional approach and dedication to our members and profession are major contributors to ILMGMA's growing success.

Jeff Lawrence, Indiana:

Jeff Lawrence has been with the Indiana MGMA Board of Directors for several years and graciously donates his time to help us with our monthly financial statements. He is simply driven to help us help all those who are a part of our excellent IMGMA organization!

Dee Nolting, CMPE, Kansas:

Dee Nolting has helped Kansas MGMA revamp our Board structure, job descriptions, Executive Director position and cleaned up our overall board function. She has dedicated many hours to this process, which has provided our Board of Directors with the assistance and dedication necessary to improve our leadership and membership.

Kyle Adkins, CMPE, Missouri:
MO-Kyle-Adkins-(1).jpgAs a leader, Kyle brings energy and excitement to any role he takes on. Kyle spent many hours recruiting new vendors/sponsors and meeting with leaders of health care systems to share with them the value of a Missouri MGMA membership, leading to new organizational memberships. Kyle has worked hard to set MO MGMA up for continued success long after his term on the board has ended.

Nate Kreifels, CMPE, Nebraska:

Nate previously served for five years on the Nebraska MGMA Board of Directors and now has volunteered to return to assist in our efforts to hire a new management company. In addition, he has been instrumental in creating a virtual option for our conferences. Nate not only attends our educational conferences but is also always willing to assist in any way to help promote our organization.

Sandra Jarrett, FACMPE, North Carolina:

Sandra is a past NCMGMA board member who remains highly active with our state association. She currently is our Education Chair heading up our newest educational initiatives and is constantly raising her hand to volunteer whenever anything is needed. Sandra is the epitome of a servant leader and our state association is grateful to have her as part of our leadership.

Aaron Mierzwiak, MPH, MBA, Ohio:

Aaron Mierzwiak has helped lead Ohio MGMA through the past two challenging years of the Covid pandemic. Aaron goes above and beyond his volunteer duties to ensure Ohio MGMA and its members have been supported and well represented. An exemplary volunteer, Ohio MGMA is lucky to have Aaron on our team!

Leslie Snider, FACMPE, Oklahoma:

Leslie has served on both Oklahoma MGMA and its local chapter Board of Directors for the past five years. When our 2022 president unexpectedly had to step down this year, Leslie was more than willing to step in and serve as our President to keep our association on the right track. We are so grateful for her dedication and commitment to OKMGMA!

Cheryll Doss, Tennessee:
In 2020, Cheryll became the president of Tennessee MGMA and began her presidential year in the middle of a pandemic. Her term was scheduled to end in 2021, however, she stepped forward and agreed to serve a second term. Cheryll recognized the need for continuity for the benefit of our members and is serving with true leadership and dedication.

Tom Tidwell, MHSM, CMPE, Texas:

Tom currently serves as Texas MGMA's Secretary/Treasurer and was the Membership Committee Chair through the end of 2021. Tom has always gone above and beyond serving Texas MGMA at the state and local chapter levels. He will be retiring from his board commitment in May and will be greatly missed.

James Hudson, Washington:

James has been an integral part of Washington MGMA's success for many years! As President, he kept our members informed of all the new pandemic-related regulations and updated our state bylaw to be in coordination with the new national dual memberships. As he transitioned to past president in the past year, he continued to stay highly active in the association by mentoring the current President of WSMGMA.

Susan Lutz, Michigan:

Susan served as President of Michigan MGMA for two years due to Covid. During the past year, Susan has displayed patience, courage, and tenacity as our association made some tough decisions on returning to in-person events, canceling scheduled events, and how to navigate this crazy time. Susan's leadership directly contributed to MiMGMA weathering the storm of Covid and coming out of it able to return to hosting events.

Sharon Smith, CMPE, FMC, CPPM, CMA(AAMA), CPC, COC, MBS, Virginia:

Sharon is Virginia MGMA’s 3rd Party Payor Representative and new ACMPE Forum Representative. She always steps up to accept a challenge! Currently, she plans our 2022 Payor Day event and reaches out to college members. We are so appreciative of all she does for Virginia MGMA.

Debra Bartel, FACMPE, CRHCP, Oregon:

Deb has served many years as a volunteer for Oregon MGMA and MGMA. Our entire Oregon OMGMA Board works directly with Deb on Portland, Oregon’s Healthcare Forum listserv and she has now worked with us to merge the OMGMA and PDX platforms. She is a go-getter and true team player who works hard not only for her clinic, but for all her colleagues, for successful patient care and practice management.

Jo Lynne Varner, Arkansas:
Jo Lynne has been a great asset to Arkansas MGMA. Her attention to her role as Treasurer and her willingness to always help out when needed is greatly appreciated by our association. Thank you, Jo Lynne, for your time and dedication to ARMGMA!

Natalie Cohen, Louisiana:
Natalie has been an instrumental part of the LMGMA Board of Directors by providing our members with timely updates during her term as Legislative Liaison and now serving as our Member-at-Large. As Chair of the LMGMA Payer Conference Committee, she has secured many of our large state payers to meet face-to-face with our members, which will be an excellent member benefit. We are grateful for Natalie's willingness to serve!

Zamia Mosman, Arizona:

Over the years, as an AzMGMA member, Zamia has participated on a number of committees. Most recently, she has been active on our Membership Committee. With Covid, maintaining and growing membership has been a challenge, yet, Zamia has come to the table with ideas and consistent commitment. Despite expanding her business, she found time to support the committee and engaged her staff to assist with communication and mailings to potential members.

Eric Speer, FACMPE, Colorado:

Eric Speer has served on the Colorado MGMA Board of Directors in some capacity for over a decade, including chairing committees, serving on the Executive Board and now serving as Legislative Liaison. Eric's commitment and dedication to CMGMA has played a massive role in the success of our association today, and we are so grateful for his leadership and willingness to serve with his whole heart.

Harold Ingram, Mississippi:
Harold served in various leadership roles in Mississippi MGMA, serving as a member of the Board of Directors, Legislative Liaison and Mississippi MGMA President. Harold was a mentor to many and a friend to all, a loving father, grandfather and a devoted husband. Harold was taken from us far too soon, and in his honor, the MGMA MS Board of Directors has developed The Harold B. Ingram Leadership Excellence Award to be presented annually.
