Why did you decide to get involved with MGMA?

I have always felt you gain the most from organizations when you get involved. My involvement in MGMA has allowed me to maximize my membership, network with members across the country and collaborate with colleagues with whom I would not have had the opportunity to meet if I had not gotten involved.

What do you find most rewarding about volunteering for MGMA?

The personal growth I have experienced from working with colleagues on projects is the most rewarding. I feel like I am more prepared to do my job from these experiences.

How did you decide that practice management was the career for you?

I was always planning to go into business management. This, along with having had several healthcare experiences at a young age, made me I realize the combination of two areas was the right fit for me.

What is the best tip you give to people who are just starting a career in practice management?

Know your limitations and build a network of professionals around you that can provide you direction.

What is your favorite book or website or resource for practice managers?

It would be the book Good to Great by Jim Collins.

How do you relax after a busy work week?

Most of my free time is spent watching my 15-year-old daughter play soccer around the country.

What is your top tip for maintaining work/life balance?

When you leave the office, leave the work at the office. You spend approximately one-third of your life at work, so maximize the time you spend at home with family, friends and rebooting mentally.
