    PROJECT SUMMARY

A community based critical access hospital has approached a private practice OBGYN group about providing obstetric services (delivering babies) at their hospital which is located 50 miles from the OBGYN practice's existing office location. The practice needs to determine the economic implications and logistics of providing obstetric services to this community.

The practice is considering opening a new clinic location in this community so that providers can offer clinic services as well as deliver babies at the community hospital. This would require additional support staff and providers to operate the new clinic location and to cover hospital call requirements. Potential obstacles to account for include providing physician call coverage at two hospitals located 50 miles apart as well as locating office space and hiring and training new staff.

If this project is successful, it would improve the quality of life for the residents of this community and the surrounding area. Citizens would now have access to at least five new medical services lines: surgery, anesthesia, pediatrics, gynecology, and obstetrics.
