    Project Summary

The overall challenge in health care practices today, among many challenges, are the administrative elements required for a physician to practice quality medicine.  Additionally, those requirements place significant burden upon practicing physicians to meet all the demands while balancing the most important overarching element of caring for their patients.  The objective of this paper is to review physician burnout in a medical practice and its subsequent impact and the barriers to replacing that professional.  This paper will inform the reader of the requirements for hiring a primary care physician in today’s health care climate and the exploration of alternatives to physician replacement.  In addition, the reader will be able to identity reasons for physician burnout as well as strategies to avoid burnout for remaining practitioners in the future. The research methodology for this paper includes a literature review from the American Academy of Family Practice, Family Practice Management, the Medical Group Management Association, The New England Journal of Medicine, Harvard Health, The Atlantic, and other sources.  The author will provide personal experience and insight from interviews with health care professionals, such as practice administrators and physicians.
