Subject to availability, MGMA will upon request provide MGMA staff speakers – one MGMA Government Affairs staffer and one MGMA staffer, at Affiliate’s State Conferences (for up to two engagements per year) in exchange for payment of the speaker’s travel expenses only, if the speaking request is for an in-person event. Upon request, MGMA will also make available, on a mutually agreeable schedule and cost, virtual or pre-recorded programs on topics of interest. Please note, if a speaking request is made for a multi-state affiliate conference, the request will be considered coming from each of the individual states, regardless of who submitted the request.

    BENEFITS

    National MGMA

    • Exposure to state-only members broadens national MGMA’s grassroots advocacy base andprovides an opportunity to highlight national MGMA resources.

    EXPECTATIONS

    State MGMA

    • Each state must agree to reimburse all applicable travel expenses including mileage, car rental and/or air travel to and from the meeting, parking, hotel, and meal expenses.

    National MGMA

    • Manage and book any necessary travel arrangements.•Provide marketing materials, such as a session description, speaker bio and headshot.•Forego honorarium charged regularly to other entities.

    HONORARIUM

Each calendar year, a state may request one government affairs national MGMA staff and one non-government affairs national MGMA staff to give a presentation at a state MGMA event at no charge. These two requests are separate and non-interchangeable. Both requests may be used for the same event or separate events.

Because MGMA Government Affairs staff travel to states for speaking engagements in addition to being responsible for the Association's advocacy efforts in Washington, any subsequent requests beyond the one annually allotted to MGMA state affiliates will incur a discounted honorarium of $1,500.00 (reduced from $2,500), with all travel expenses also reimbursed by the state. Please note that this policy applies to state MGMA affiliates only.

    PRESENTATION CONTENT

National MGMA Government Affairs staff will provide each state with a PDF copy of the presenter’s final slide deck on or around the date of their presentation. The state MGMA may share the PDF version of the final slide deck with attendees provided it includes the date of the presentation and the following disclaimer: “The information included is subject to change due to the actions of Congress and the Administration.”

Due to the rapidly changing regulatory and legislative environment, it is not always possible for government affairs speakers to meet deadlines that require our presentations in advance of the state event.

SEMI-ANNUAL DEADLINE FOR STATE SPEAKING REQUESTS

    • MGMA Government Affairs will solicit and collect state MGMA speaking requests on a semi-annual basis to help us better manage our speaking engagements during the busy spring and fall conference seasons.
    • All applicable speaking requests must be submitted by the semi-annual deadlines, but you are welcome to submit your request in advance of the deadline. Decisions about availability will be made in a timely manner following the speaking request deadline, at which point MGMA Government Affairs staff will confirm their availability and formally respond to all state speaking requests received by the deadline.
