Practice Efficiency

Carol L. Sligh MSN, RN, FACMPE
With the shift from a fee for service to a value-based health care system, medical practice executives must be knowledgeable in quality improvement plans to move their organization in the right direction. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement Model for Improvement is a program that provides valuable guidance in building a quality improvement program within the medical office setting. Based on key questions and the PDSA model, the program delivers a necessary framework for testing ideas to improve quality. This paper demonstrates the use of the Model for Improvement that allowed a medical practice to increase nursing quality indicator scores by ensuring all team members were involved in the process of change. Gains realized from the process produced positive, lasting effects.
