Also included in this episode is an annual conference overview from MGMA Sr. Editor Craig Wiberg.
Here are three can’t-miss sessions:
1. PRE101: So You Want to be an Expert Witness? (8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13):
This session, led by Cohen and attorneys Jeff Miller and Amanda Waesch, both of Brennan Manna Diamond, LLC, will detail what qualifications healthcare professionals will need to have if they want to become expert witnesses. This interactive session will also detail how to create successful relationships with attorneys, what billing structure you should adopt and how to market your services.
2. C01: Assessing and Documenting Legitimate Medical Purpose When Prescribing Opioids and Other Medications (9:40-10:40 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14):
Bowman was working in the pharmaceutical industry in Florida at the height of the opioid crisis. He witnessed up-close how opioids can destroy lives and businesses. This led him to his work educating healthcare professionals about “a prescriber’s civil and criminal risk” when prescribing opioids. In this session, he will differentiate good and bad documentation in treating chronic pain patients and compare unique data that should be considered prior to initiating or continuing opioid therapy.
3. EXT08: Achieving Personal and Professional Success through Effective Leadership Strategies (10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16):
Menaker and Michael O’Connell, Senior Vice President, Operations, Stanford Health, share the aspects of leading yourself through learning, leading others through relationship building, leading the organization by achieving excellence, and creating a work-life balance. This 120-minute session will guide attendees on a journey of self-discovery, showing them how to adapt quickly to change in the workplace, how to better navigate through complex problems, and what tools can be used to achieve one’s desired outcomes.
