Team-based approaches to hospitalized patient care delivery between physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) has grown. Historically, these split or shared services could be captured by physicians and reimbursed accordingly. In 2023, however, CMS’ first update to the nearly two-decade-old split/shared rule will signify a substantial shift toward APP billing for split/shared services, forcing medical groups and healthcare systems to understand and operationalize the change while minimizing financial and cultural impacts. This session will provide expert insight into the elements of CMS’ 2023 split/shared rule and identify how those elements will affect reimbursement, influence previously established clinical workflows and potentially change team dynamics. Attendees will learn about institutional policy, documentation, payer enrollment, privileging and compensation considerations, as well as actionable next steps your medical group can take to smooth the transition and promote rule compliance.

American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE)
This program is approved for ACMPE continuing education hours. A cumulative total of 50 ACMPE continuing education credit hours is among the requirements for attaining the Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) credential. To maintain CMPE or Fellow status, you must earn 50 hours of qualifying credit hours every three years, of which 30 hours must come from MGMA national, state or local offerings, including 12 from a live learning event.

Amanda Rumpke serves as the System Director of Advanced Practice Clinicians for Bon Secours Mercy Health, one of the nation’s largest Catholic healthcare systems, based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. She has supported advanced practice nurses in a wide variety of leadership roles through her nearly 20-year career. An acute-care nurse practitioner by training, Amanda continues to care for patients with pulmonary disease. Additionally, Amanda advocates for advanced practice nurses as the Southwest Ohio Co-Director of the Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses.
Amanda has spoken to a variety of audiences on a range of topics including nursing leadership, advanced practice workforce utilization, advanced practice law, billing and advanced practice clinical quality.
