Why should you pay attention to your coders? “Good coding is the foundation of a financially healthy practice,” says Sue Whitney, MGMA Senior Content Manager and resident coding expert. “If your practice suffers from bad coding practices it can cost money or put your practice at significant risk.”

Whitney is a certified medical coder and instructor through the American Academy of Professional Coders. She has extensive knowledge and decades of experience, and she provides a practical approach to coding, billing, provider documentation improvement, revenue cycle management and more.

One of Whitney’s most important bits of advice? Don’t be afraid of a coding audit. “Many times they pay for themselves just by finding missed opportunities for revenue,” she says.

Listen to our full conversation and learn more about the importance of good coding from Whitney in this episode of our new podcast, MGMA Small Talk.
