An Allscripts ransomware attack affected thousands of physician practices nationwide

Unable to connect to their EHR, thousands of small physician practices were left with no other option but to treat their patients without access to their medical records amid a ransomware attack on Allscripts. Many others were forced to cancel scheduled surgeries and procedures leading to a huge loss of revenue, according to FierceHealthcare.

“Of the roughly 1,500 clients impacted, none were hospitals or large independent physician practices, and services to many already have been restored,” said Allscripts spokesperson Concetta Rasiarmos.

According to several office managers, one of Allscripts’ big selling points was the security feature of cloud hosting.
