MGMA Stat: Majority of organizations have invested in technology to improve patient engagement

The Medical Group Management Association’s most recent MGMA Stat poll asked healthcare leaders if their organization has invested in any technology to improve patient engagement in the past year. Nearly six in 10 respondents indicated that they have (59%), 36% said they have not and the remaining 5% were unsure. 

Those who indicated yes often cited that they invested in a variety of technologies to improve patient engagement, including patient portals, online registration and payment options, kiosks, new EHRs, text messaging capabilities, digital signage, telehealth services and patient survey software. 

This poll was conducted on Aug. 21, 2018, with 1,125 applicable responses. Pamela Ballou-Nelson, RN, MSPH, CMPE, PhD, principal, MGMA Consulting, offers more insight in her article, “How technology can enhance patient self-management.
