EHR time exceeds face-to-face time in family practice

Primary care physicians spent more time working in the EHR than they spent in face-to-face time with patients in clinic visits, according to a recent study.

Of the 982 physician-patient visits observed, the mean length of visits, excluding resident precepting, was 35.8 minutes, according to Healthcare Informatics. Mean face-to-face time lasted 16.5 minutes during the visit, compared to estimated EHR time per visit of 18.6 minutes.
