MGMA Releases Comprehensive Data Tool to Help Medical Practices Better Manage Their Businesses

Press Release

Englewood, Colo. (October 30, 2018) – Today, Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) released the 2018 MGMA DataDive All Surveys package to help medical practices better manage their business. Comprised of four in-depth MGMA DataDive datasets, the package provides detailed insights and benchmarking information around nearly every aspect of medical practice management.

“MGMA’s DataDive surveys are the gold-standard of benchmarking data in the healthcare industry,” said Todd Evenson, chief operating officer at MGMA. “The MGMA DataDive All Surveys package takes a close and comprehensive look across the industry at operations, staffing, revenue and so many other critical aspects of medical practice management. With this package, we’re empowering medical practices with the latest and most thorough industry data available to help them better manage their business.”

In addition to being an invaluable business tool, DataDive datasets are closely analyzed by MGMA experts to identify new or shifting trends in medical practices throughout the country. Below are the datasets that are included in the 2018 MGMA DataDive All Surveys package and some of their key findings:

  • MGMA DataDive Provider Compensation showed stark evidence of the growing physician shortage in the U.S., with compensation for primary care physicians rising 10 percent over the past five years.
  • MGMA DataDive Management and Staff Compensation further demonstrated the shortages of qualified applicants for both clinical and nonclinical positions in medical practices, with certain positions seeing large increases in median compensation in order to entice qualified candidates.
  • MGMA DataDive Cost and Revenue found that medical practices that utilize more non-physician providers benefit from increased revenue and productivity.
  • MGMA DataDive Practice Operations discovered that practices are increasingly using formal employee appreciation programs as a retention tool, with 77 percent of practices reporting they currently operate such a program. As a result, these practices reported lower turnover rates across nearly every role within their practice.
