The American Heart Association (AHA) has awarded MGMA the Bronze Workplace Health Achievement Index Award – an award that recognizes companies that strive to improve the health of their workplace and their workforce from one year to the next.

This is the second consecutive year that MGMA has earned this distinction. This achievement is a testament to the focus MGMA puts on the health and wellness of our employees and our workplace culture.

What is the Workplace Health Achievement Index?
Criteria for the AHA Workplace Health Achievement Index is determined by a CEO Roundtable consisting of more than 40 CEOs from some of America’s largest companies. The index assesses the culture, structure and health outcomes of an organization’s workplace health program on a points system, and awards Gold, Silver or Bronze awards based on overall score.

How did MGMA earn the award?
Each fiscal year (July-June), the MGMA Wellness Team provides suggestions for wellness-related activities and quarterly challenges to encourage the overall well-being of our employees. Employees can earn 50 or 100 wellness points for each activity, for a total of 1,000 possible points to contribute to the overall total. This AHA program last year focused on four pillars including Eat Well, Add Color, Move More, and Be Well.

MGMA’s favorite activities that helped us achieve this Bronze status are participation in the AHA Heart Walk at Empower Field at Mile High, institution of company-wide massages, and an office event focused on “Danish Hygge,” which translates to cozy contentment and wellbeing. During this event, lights were dimmed and electronics were traded for slippers, gratitude journals, hot drinks and a cozy on-screen fire.

What does the award mean for MGMA, and what’s next?
“When MGMA employees are allowed the time and resources to take a step back and focus on their personal well-being, the result lasts far beyond the workplace,” said Halee Fischer-Wright, MD, MMM, FAAP, FACMPE, president and chief executive officer of MGMA. “We are committed to supporting our employees on all fronts, work-related or otherwise, so they are on a path toward a healthy future.”

Our hope is that increasingly more employees will join the movement toward a happy, healthy workplace and life, by taking advantage of the variety of activities MGMA offers that are inspired by the AHA Workplace Health Achievement Index  . In the coming months, MGMA will host a lunch and learn and a food event to explore the benefits of nutritious, colorful eating as a community.
