Formal employee performance evaluations are critical for organizational success

The Medical Group Management Association’s most recent MGMA Stat poll asked healthcare leaders if their organization does a formal employee performance evaluation. The majority of respondents indicate that their organization performs a formal employee performance evaluation for all positions. While many evaluate new staff at shorter intervals during the beginning of their tenure, 95% specify that reviews are performed annually. About one-tenth describe that their organization conducts a formal evaluation for some positions, while 8% do not formally evaluate their employees.

The poll was conducted on April 24, 2018, with 1,607 applicable responses. MGMA principal consultant Kenneth T. Hertz, FACMPE, offers pointers on formal performance evaluations.
