News & Insights New year, same politics Washington Connection Advocacy Categories Sign in to save January 9, 2020: Although we just rang in a new year, Congress is expected to continue focusing on last year’s health priorities in 2020. Since lawmakers fell short of including surprise billing and drug pricing in their year-end spending deal, we expect these issues to remain top priorities. At the end of 2019, appropriators set up a potential vehicle for legislative action on these issues by extending several Medicare and Medicaid programs through May 22. While we wait to see if lawmakers can come to an agreement by May, MGMA members have an opportunity to support a number of current bills that would have a positive effect on medical group practices, such as decreasing prior authorization administrative burdens and eliminating copays for chronic care management services via our Contact Congress portal. MGMA Government Affairs will continue to advocate for the interests of medical group practices on Capitol Hill.
