MGMA testifies in support of new rules to improve prior authorization Washington Connection - September 2, 2020 Health Information Technology Sign in to save Aug. 27, 2020: MGMA testified before the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS), a federal advisory body, at a hearing on the issue of adopting operating rules to improve the current prior authorization process. The proposed operating rules would set new data content and timing mandates for health plans, including the requirement that plans respond within two business days following an authorization request from a practice and respond with the additional documentation needed to complete the request. The health plan would also have a maximum of two business days to send a response containing a final determination once they receive all requested information. NCVHS is expected to release its recommendations to HHS later this year. Read MGMA’s written testimony.
