Why did you decide to get involved with MGMA?

MGMA’s diverse membership and network of health administrators and business executives from a broad range of medical practices attracted me to become a student member. My personal goal of helping transform healthcare also aligns with MGMA’s mission of creating meaningful change in the healthcare industry.  Membership with MGMA provides me opportunities for personal and professional growth, and also provides opportunities to expand your network and engage with healthcare and business professionals. I look forward to contributing to the field of medical practice management by continuing to expand my knowledge in health delivery systems, as well as continuing to develop vital leadership and strategic management skills, in order to become a Health Administrator of a healthcare facility.  I firmly believe MGMA will play a significant role in helping me achieve this goal.

What do you find most rewarding about being a student ambassador for MGMA?

While serving those in need of assistance during the MGMA conference as a Student Ambassador, I find it most rewarding that I am also provided with the opportunity to learn more about the various ways to be more efficient and effective in the ever-changing healthcare industry. I also appreciate the opportunity to enhance my journey to healthcare leadership through a wide-range of educational content. The sessions during the conference really dissect organization’s inefficiencies and discuss best practices and solutions to significantly improve outcomes. Further, I find it rewarding to be able to take advantage of the face-to-face networking opportunities that contribute to my career advancement and professional development.  These networking events give you first-hand exposure to and knowledge from health professionals and experts in the healthcare industry from across the United States.

What is the best tip you have to give other students looking to start a career in Healthcare?

Follow your passion when choosing your career in healthcare, which will allow you to naturally become an expert in whatever healthcare area you decide is most suitable for you. Also, be open to opportunities, and be able to take risks with your options. Healthcare is a very broad field with various career options; therefore, you should not limit your career to one trajectory.
