Andrea Erben, Student Ambassador, MGMA Campus Champion:

I initially joined MGMA to increase my knowledge of the healthcare industry and to gain applicable experience that might further my career as a healthcare professional. I say “initially,” because I quickly learned that my involvement with MGMA could provide much more than knowledge. That realization is largely due to my experience as a volunteer.

Membership in MGMA is an excellent way to cultivate relationships with colleagues and industry leaders, and volunteering has afforded me the opportunity to take full advantage of that benefit. Healthcare is a diverse and complicated industry, filled with many roles, and having the opportunity to share experiences with others in the industry has been extremely valuable. I have held positions at several facilities in my ten-plus years as a healthcare professional, and each facility presented unique challenges that ultimately taught me important lessons. Volunteering with MGMA is a unique way to learn more of those valuable lessons just by networking with my peers and listening to their perspectives.

My involvement with MGMA has been rewarding, both professionally and personally. I enjoy being an ambassador to the health community, and volunteering is an opportunity to repay that community for all that it continues to provide.
