MGMA Stat - Net Revenue Goals - Jan. 30, 2018

The Medical Group Management Association’s most recent MGMA Stat poll asked medical group administrators to gauge their practices’ financial performance in the past year. Approximately one quarter reported their performance met budget goals, nearly a third exceeded their goals, and a little more than a third fell short; the remaining respondents did not have a budget or were unsure.

The poll conducted on January 30, 2018, collected information from more than 1,000 administrators on their FY2017 budgets. Specifically, 36% reported they fell short of budget, while a slightly lower 30% exceeded their budget forecast and 23% were on target. Perhaps more surprisingly, 8% percent responded they did not have a budget and 3% were unsure.

The same poll was conducted on January 17, 2017, with similar results. Overall, there has been a 4-percentage-point increase in practices that did not meet their goals and a 6-percentage-point decrease for those on target. The data for those practices that exceeded their FY2017 net revenue goals remained the same.

The poll was conducted on January 30, 2018, with 1,019 total responses. Of this total, 31 indicated the question was not applicable to their situation, with a net of 988 applicable responses.
