A: Your application and eligibility will not change. 

• The additional pathway option to apply will not affect your application. You may continue to complete your CMPE.
• You may now add CE’s up to THREE years prior to your acceptance date.

• Once you complete your Board Certification, you will have additional options to obtain Fellowship.

A: Your Board Certification does not change.

• The additional pathway option to apply will not affect your designation and does not change the value of your credentials. The additional pathway does not change skill set required to complete Board Certification.

• As a CMPE, you will have additional options to obtain Fellowship.
• If you have not considered Fellowship before, it is the gold standard designation which demonstrates expert knowledge of the principles of medical group management and leadership.

• Since you currently have a Fellowship application, you may complete either pathway under the new requirements, or continue with your business plan. Please contact fellowship@mgma.com to change pathways.

• You may log additional volunteer hours completed up to SIX years prior to your application purchase now.

Your Fellowship credential does not change.

• The changes do not affect the requirements to uphold your FACMPE.
• The purpose of these changes is to elevate Fellows in the industry while continuing to uphold the rigor and standards the FACMPE credentials represent.
• The two pathways are equivalent and meet the objective and core competencies of Fellowship.

A: As part of a multi-year strategy, the ACMPE Certification Commission have created goals to ensure we’re upholding the ACMPE credentials as the gold standard for medical practice management. With support and efforts with a Strategic ACMPE Taskforce, oversight, and adaptions by the ACMPE Certification Commission, and with the support of the MGMA-ACMPE Board of Directors, these changes were made final.

A: We pride ourselves in upholding accreditation standards and seek fair and equitable eligibility that does not exclude potentially qualified candidates. With thoughtful review, an additional pathway has been added to be equitable and comparable to our current requirements. The current required elements to complete Board Certification have not changed. The additional pathway will include an experience-based eligibility review process, requiring applicants to have six years of healthcare experience, four of which must be in healthcare management or a healthcare leadership role. Outlined below are the two current and the one new eligibility options.

The skill set required to complete Board Certification of deep understanding and knowledge of the principles of the Body of Knowledge for Medical Practice Management and the application of those principles to real-life situations and scenarios will not be changed. Again, all required elements to complete Board Certification have not changed.

As a credentialing body, our priority is for Fellowship to continue to be a valuable leadership designation in the industry. To do this, we are updating our objective and core competencies to clearly define the current and future Fellows of ACMPE and to ensure we are upholding the rigor and standards the FACMPE credentials represent.
