Registration includes two webinars, held on Oct. 24 and Dec. 3, 2019; six self-study session modules; and one exam that allows you to claim continuing education credit. The six self-study sessions are eligible for ACMPE and CEU credit.

The ACMPE Board Certification Preparation Course is designed to help healthcare professionals prepare for the ACMPE exam. This comprehensive course helps examinees identify content necessary to meet board certification standards, including financial management, regulatory compliance, organizational governance and departmental operations management. To best prepare applicants for the examinations, topics are reviewed from the perspective of a variety of healthcare settings, including hospitals and ambulatory care settings.

Session 1: Board Certification Preparation Overview

This review session outlines the ACMPE board certification program eligibility along with the requirements to advance. We break down the preparation course materials for the next six review sessions as you get ready to complete your ACMPE exams.

This 30-minute session will provide you with the knowledge to:
  • Outline program eligibility
  • Examine the requirements to advance
  • Break down preparation course materials


Session 2: Operations Management Review: Building an effective business plan and managing daily operations

This review session focuses on optimizing practice operations through process improvement and project management. We explain the use of strategic planning and a master budget in a medical group practice. We discuss purchasing and asset management, why it is important to provide high-quality and safe environments, when to outsource business services, how to manage information technology in the practice and why marketing and communication plans are important. Common benchmarks for physician compensation and performance are discussed.

This 60-minute session will provide you with the knowledge to:
  • Distinguish a process improvement program
  • Outline strategic planning and budgeting in a group practice
  • Break down effective facility design for quality and safety reasons


Session 3: Financial Management Review: Maintaining financial systems to ensure a profitable practice

This review session focuses on financial management, including coding and billing concepts, payer reimbursement policies and revenue cycles, cash flow management, accounts payable management, payroll systems management, budget management and the audit processes. A list of key terms is included.

This 60-minute session will provide you with the knowledge to:
  • Break down the regulations of coding and billing
  • Outline revenue cycle and cash flows
  • Analyze the accounting and budget process


Session 4: Human Resources Management Review: Utilizing human resources to achieve and enhance organizational performance

This review session focuses on human resource management. We discuss staffing plans, clinical and nonclinical staff retention, training and development, staff compensation, benefit plans and staff performance evaluations.

This 60-minute session will provide you with the knowledge to:
  • Analyze staffing plans and strategies
  • Outline staff compensation and benefit plans
  • Examine the performance evaluation process


Session 5: Risk and Compliance Review: Protecting organizations from medical malpractice and adverse legal events

This review session discusses risk management processes and how to handle adverse events. Also reviewed are specific federal and state laws and regulations and requirements for accreditation and licensure.

This 60-minute session will provide you with the knowledge to:
  • Examine policies and procedures that will reduce the potential for adverse events
  • Outline a compliance program that follows all laws and regulations
  • Point out accreditation and licensure requirements for providers and the practice


Session 6: Organizational Governance Review: Ensuring effective governance and leadership through policies and strategic direction

This review session focuses on an organization’s legal structure and governance and how to implement a corporate mission, vision and values statement.

This 60-minute session will provide you with the knowledge to:
  • Break down corporate legal structures and governance for organizations
  • Outline the corporate mission, vision and values statement in an organization
  • Examine change management


Session 7: Patient-Centered Care Review: Delivering quality care focused on patient safety and efficient operations

This review session reviews the care coordination processes, as well as discusses quality initiatives and measurement activities.

This 60-minute session will provide you with the knowledge to:
  • Break down an environment to create, implement and maintain care coordination processes
  • Distinguish how to implement and maintain quality initiatives
  • Analyze how to measure and benchmark quality activities


Session 8: Board Certification Preparation: Live Question-and-Answer Session
Dec. 3, 2019 | 1:00 pm ET (12:00 pm CT, 11:00 am MT, 10:00 am PT)


This review session is a LIVE event during which we will review the steps on how to obtain ACMPE board certification, hold an open discussion to identify any personal gaps in knowledge and answer any outstanding questions attendees may have upon completion of the six ACMPE review sessions.

This 30-minute session will provide you with the knowledge to:
  • Outline the steps of how to become board certified
  • Examine any personal gaps in knowledge of the study materials
  • Analyze any personal post-session questions


ACMPE is the certification and Fellowship authority of MGMA.

Continuing Education Information

Delivery method: Internet Activity Enduring Material
Learning level: Intermediate – Education that builds on a basic curriculum, designed to improve your ability to analyze and apply skills learned to a topic or knowledge area.
Learning format: Traditional  
Prerequisites: A basic understanding of the topic or knowledge area.
Advance preparation: None
Duration: 5.5 credit hours total NOTE: You must participate in the entire series to claim credit, and you cannot claim credit until after Dec. 3, 2019.

              

Claiming Credit

Required Exam

If you wish to claim the following credit, you must attend the entire series then pass the single associated exam with a score of 80% or higher. Registration includes all eight sessions and one exam.

 
  • ACMPE, medical practice administrators in certification and Fellowship through ACMPE
    • Exam must be completed no later than: One year from purchase date
  • CEU, generic continuing education unit
    • Exam must be completed no later than: One year from purchase date

After you register for the exam, instructions on how to access the exam will be emailed to you.
 

Team Participation

Participants who want to claim continuing education credit must be individually registered for the webinar and subsequent exam. If participants would like to attend the webinar as a team using one person’s log-in credentials, the person who launched the webinar will need to email a list (first and last names) of all participants to continuinged@mgma.com after the webinar has concluded. MGMA will mark these individuals’ status as “completed” within five business days to allow each team participant to claim his or her desired continuing education credit.
 

 

Official Continuing Education Statements and Availability

Continuing education credit is granted to registered attendees who purchase and complete both the webinar and exam.
 

American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE)

This program is approved as a live learning event for ACMPE continuing education hours. A cumulative total of 50 ACMPE continuing education credit hours is among the requirements for attaining the Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) credential. To maintain CMPE or Fellow status, you must earn 50 hours of qualifying credit hours every three years, of which 30 hours must come from MGMA national, state or local offerings, including 12 from a live learning event.

One ACMPE credit is earned for every 60 minutes of educational content, rounded down to the nearest 0.25.

 

Continuing Education Units (CEU)

A certificate of attendance will be provided to healthcare professionals requesting generic CEUs for professional development, certifications through other professional associations or specialty societies.

Jimmie Holland

Jimmie Holland, MBA, MHA, FACMPE

Performance Improvement Manager, HCA Physician Services

Jimmie completed his undergraduate education at West Point. Following graduation he served in the United States Army for 5 years including combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan as a combat engineer. After his 5 years he transferred to the Tennessee National Guard and began civilian life as a Practice Manager for HCA. He spent 4 years managing Centennial Heart at StoneCrest and then Centennial Heart at Summit. Next Jimmie joined the Performance Improvement team where he serves as an internal consultant to physician practices that are part of the HCA system. His current focus is on helping practices better manage their labor and patient throughput in the practice. Additionally, he is active in the Nashville affiliate of the MGMA as President. Jimmie earned his MBA from Middle Tennessee State University and MHA from Colorado State University. Jimmie is married to Jamie Holland and lives in Spring Hill, TN. They have daughter, a son, and a dog who is 8 and should be calm by now but definitely is not. Jimmie enjoys competing in marathons and hiking as often as he can steal away for the weekend.



Deborah Hudson

Deborah Hudson, FACMPE

Business Development Representative, State Volunteer Mutual Insurance Company

Deborah Hudson is the MGMA liaison to Alabama, Georgia and Kentucky. She is a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives (FACMPE) and a past president of the Tennessee MGMA. She is a former Tennessee ACMPE Forum Rep and now serves on the ACMPE Certification Commission. Hudson was a practice manager in Northeast Tennessee for 10 years before becoming a business development and account executive for State Volunteer Mutual Insurance Company.


The two webinars are delivered live using online web conferencing software, which allows you to interact directly with presenters and colleagues through your web browser.

The six self-study modules are interactive recordings.

You will receive informational emails with log-in instructions and handout materials.
