During this ten-week course, you’ll explore Lean techniques to evaluate processes, with the goal of eliminating steps that do not provide value to the organization or the customer and discover how to use fewer resources and reduce costs by eliminating redundancy, rework and other forms of waste. Upon successful completion of the lectures, calls, quizzes and project, a Green Belt certificate will be awarded.  

After taking this course, you will be able to:

  • Explain the background and principals of Lean and Six Sigma
  • Formulate and manage a project plan to achieve your practice’s goals
  • Implement and evaluate a project to increase your practice’s efficiency and success without sacrificing quality

During this course, two Black Belt Lean Six Sigma facilitators experienced in group practice management will conduct weekly conference calls and question-and-answer sessions with the participants and will be available on the discussion board and through email.

The facilitator’s professional experiences will provide you with expert insight and enhance your online learning experience. Each week the facilitator will grade weekly homework assignments and quizzes and provide feedback as well as conduct a weekly question-and-answer discussion webinar.

In order to meet the class requirements, you must participate in weekly webinar discussions, review the video material, take an exam and turn in homework assignments. This interaction gives you the additional advantage of networking with fellow students and provides you with additional perspectives and support.

The format?  Engaging, up-to-date content focused on healthcare designed to maximize learning:

  • Multimedia, videos and animation, Adobe Connect webinar discussion sessions
  • Interactive quizzes and real-life problem-solving scenarios
  • Identification of learning gaps and additional resources to close those gaps
  • The ability to take notes within the course platform and print for future reference
     

To provide you with maximum scheduling flexibility, this course is divided into several short segments, allowing you to complete the weekly modules at your convenience. Each weekly class is approximately one hour.

Due to the content and the project requirements, this course has the following weekly requirements:

  • A weekly webinar discussion every Tuesday at 6:00 pm EST (UTC-4; 5:00 pm CST, 4:00 pm MST, 3:00 pm PST). Convert to your time zone.
  • Weekly quizzes following the lectures
  • Homework assignments, culminating in a project implementation by the end of the ten-week session

Claiming Credit

If you wish to claim ACMPE or continuing education unit (CEU) credit for this eLearning course, participants must successfully complete participation in weekly webinar discussions, review weekly lectures and pass exams, complete Homework assignments, culminating in a project implementation by the end of the ten-week session.

American College of Medical Practice Executives (ACMPE)

ACMPECredit continues to be a free member benefit for Certified Medical Practice Executives (CMPEs) and Fellows in the American College of Medical Practice Executives (FACMPEs) and can be claimed on these members' ACMPE transcripts.

ACMPE credit is available to MGMA members who are enrolled in the Association’s credentialing program. Learn more about ACMPE credit.

One ACMPE credit is earned for every 60 minutes of educational contact, rounded down to the nearest 0.25.

Continuing Education Units (CEU)

Generic CEU certificates of attendance are available to registered course attendees who complete the course and pass the exam.

Refund/Cancellation Policy

MGMA must receive all eLearning courses cancellation requests no later than 48 hours prior to the start of the program to be eligible for a full refund minus a $75 setup cost. Fees cannot be refunded once a program has been started or completed.

If for any reason MGMA must cancel this program, MGMA will notify participants by email of the cancellation no less than 48 hours prior to the cancellation of the program. Full registration fees will be refunded in full within 90 day of the cancellation.

Owen DahlOwen Dahl is a nationally recognized medical practice management consultant with more than 48 years’ experience in consulting and managing medical practices. His expertise includes revenue cycle management, strategic planning, organizational behavior and information systems implementation.

Dahl is a recognized national speaker on topics such as Lean, revenue cycle, scenario planning, practice operations, change and disaster preparedness.

He is the author of such titles as Think Business – Medical Practice Quality, Efficiency, and Profits and The Medical Practice Disaster Guide Book, and coauthored Lean Six Sigma for the Medical Practice. In addition, he writes and contributes articles that appear in MGMA Connection, Medical Economics, Physicians Practice and several other publications.

Dahl received his Bachelor’s degree in hospital administration from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., and his MBA from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley. He has completed doctoral work at NOVA Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Alti Rahman is the practice administrator of Oncology Consultants in Houston. Oncology Consultants’ 14 physicians and four advanced practitioners operate out of nine full-service medical oncology offices, including a large international cancer center, a radiation oncology office, two diagnostic imaging centers, an oral pharmacy and research programs, all supported by a central business office.

Rahman’s business strategies focus on continuous enhancement of patient/physician-centered care and patient engagement via prioritization of staff training and development through the use of technology and measuring outcomes.

Rahman holds multiple supplemental roles, including as an MGMA Six Sigma course instructor, steering committee board member for McKesson Specialty Health, and treasurer of the National Cancer Care Alliance (NCCA).
