“Despite being relatively new to healthcare, my aspirations to become a well respected, and intelligent individual within the workplace are realistic goals of mine. I have high hopes to become a healthcare administrator; just as my mentor is today. I know there are steps one must take in order to achieve this dream of mine. I am actively taking courses to further my education within the industry, in addition to courses through the Masters of Business Administration Program at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Attending conferences, especially through the MGMA-ACMPE, will provide me with outside perspectives, and add to the body of knowledge I have gained thus far. The next step in my career would be a manager within one of the fifteen divisions that make up the Department of Medicine.”

“Ideally, my professional career will lead me into a management position at a medical practice. I am also very intrigued by the future of hospital-based clinics, and would enjoy the challenge that being the director of multiple clinics and specialties would bring. I look forward to working closely with and for physicians, and to the opportunities and challenges that those relationships will bring to my professional life.”

“My long term goal is to work in medical practice management as either a CEO of a Community Health Center or in a position such as Vice President of Physician Network Services in a hospital system. My interest in this career path has grown over the past year as I have learned more about the future of healthcare administration through my MHA program. I’ve also had the fortune through my work to be able to interact and partner with hospitals, Community Health Centers, Rural Health Clinics, physicians, home health and other agencies and local organizations. I’ve worked at the local, regional and state levels and have gained experience and education in areas such as healthcare delivery systems, policy, compliance, information management and technology, quality assurance, business development and governance. Medical practice management encompasses all of these areas and more and because of this, I believe I can add value as a future leader in the field.”

“I hope to work in healthcare administration. I want this degree to teach me how to manage an outpatient facility, how to measure quality, and how to effectively manage my employees. Obtaining a scholarship, so that I can fully pursue this degree, will give me the opportunity to fulfill all of my career aspirations. And perhaps allow me the opportunity to take on a fellowship or internship so that I might become a more effective leader in healthcare.”

“My short-term MBA goal is, therefore, to enter a general management rotational program in a healthcare organization where I can gain the direct experience of the day-to-day operations. My long-term goal is to work in consulting for healthcare organizations that wish to integrate or expand to emerging countries. To achieve my goals I will be immersing myself in Kellogg’s MBA program with a focus in healthcare management. This will provide me with leadership development and networking opportunities and will help me develop the acute business sense needed to navigate through today’s complex healthcare market.”

“I did not know it consciously until I decided to change careers last year and enroll in the MSHA program at the University of Colorado Denver, but I have always been a supporter of medical practices and medical practice management. I hope to take a more active role in the future in strengthening them against government and market changes, and giving physicians some of the business sophistication necessary to defend their rights against pressures from their "partners".”

“Obtaining Fellowship in ACMPE is critical to my professional development. While I have advanced degrees, none are specific to the healthcare industry. I look to MGMA and ACMPE to provide the critical industry-specific knowledge necessary to be successful in healthcare. I would like to attend the 2012 Annual Conference in San Antonio Texas in October. I believe this will provide outstanding opportunities for education as well as networking with fellow managers.”
