A Guide for Grassroots Advocacy
Grassroots Actions
Request the introduction of a bill.
Request that your representative co-sponsor the bill.
Assist in the education process of both lawmakers and staff.
Offer preliminary input.
Identify key committee members and the districts they represent.
Contact your legislator to influence the committee process, particularly if he/she sits on the committee of jurisdiction.
Write a letter to your local lawmaker in support of or opposition to the bill.
Phone your local lawmaker to voice your support of or opposition to the bill.
Request a meeting with your lawmaker to express your concerns or support.
Identify conferees.
Write, call or meet with your local representative to express your position on the bill, particularly if your local lawmaker serves on the committee.
Contact your local lawmaker concerning likelihood of presidential veto and the potential for a congressional override.
