Flagship ACO drops from Medicare Shared Savings Program citing common criticisms

Summary:

Dartmouth College, which is credited with originally devising and naming the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model, has dropped out of the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). Dartmouth joins a number of ACOs who have left the program citing similar concerns, namely high startup and ongoing care coordination costs coupled with unrealistic financial benchmarks.
