Brennan, Allison

Allison Brennan, MPP
Senior Advocacy Advisor

Allison works on Medicare regulatory issues and private sector advocacy initiatives. She also serves as the staff liaison with the MGMA assemblies and societies and supervises two government affairs section representatives. Allison joined MGMA in the fall of 2009 and served as a government affairs representative for two years before moving into her current position.

Prior to joining MGMA, Allison worked as a program manager at the Brookings Institution from 2005 to 2009. In this position, she designed and managed educational seminars focused the policy process and federal leadership development.  From 2003 to 2005 Allison worked at the National Patient Advocate Foundation (NPAF). At NPAF she lobbied state governments on behalf of patients, managed grassroots efforts and researched health policy.  

Allison has a bachelor’s degree in government and economics from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. She has her master’s degree in public policy from Georgetown University, with a focus on health policy.

Anders Gilberg

Anders M. Gilberg, MGA
Senior Vice President

Anders helps lead the Association's advocacy efforts to help medical group practices meet the challenges posed by today's rapidly evolving health care marketplace. He rejoined MGMA in late 2007 after five years as assistant director of federal affairs for the American Medical Association. In that capacity he lobbied on a range of federal policy issues, including health care quality, pay-for-performance, information technology, patient safety, antitrust and the uninsured.

From 1997-2003 he held several positions in MGMA Government Affairs, including congressional liaison and government affairs representative for the eastern and southern sections. From 1992-1995, Anders worked for the Pennsylvania General Assembly, where he served as an analyst on the professional staff of the House Aging and Youth Committee.

Anders holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, and a master's degree in government administration from the Fels Center for Government at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa.

Jennifer McLaughlin, JD
Government Affairs Representative Eastern and Western Sections

Jennifer answers member questions about technical details of federal legislative and regulatory issues, coordinates grassroots efforts by MGMA members, and speaks before MGMA state and national meetings.

Prior to joining MGMA, Jennifer interned with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Departmental Appeals Board, where she analyzed appeals for Medicare coverage. She also gained experience drafting health care agreements and researching relevant legislation and regulations as a legal intern at Inova Health System in northern Virginia.

Jennifer earned her law degree from George Mason University School of Law and her bachelor’s degree in psychology and English writing from the University of Pittsburgh.  Jennifer started at MGMA in June 2013.

Jeb  Jeb Shepard
Government Affairs Representative Midwestern and Southern Sections
             

Jeb answers member questions about technical details of federal legislative and regulatory issues, coordinates grassroots efforts by MGMA members, and speaks before MGMA state and national meetings.

Prior to joining MGMA, Jeb worked as a Legislative Associate at a leading state and local government affairs firm where he tracked and analyzed healthcare, immigration and labor legislation for corporate, trade association and non-profit clients in thirteen states. From 2007-2009, Jeb was a Legislative Assistant to a Representative in the Washington State House of Representatives, where he worked on a wide array of policy issues.

Jeb holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Washington in Seattle. Jeb started at MGMA in late 2011.

Jennifer Gasperini, MA
Government Affairs Representative

Jennifer's focus is on federal legislative and regulatory issues which include but are not limited to Medicare Physician Payment, the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS), and Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs).

Prior to joining MGMA, Jennifer worked as a Senior Account Executive at Ketchum. In this role she worked with government clients such as CMS and ONC on issues including ICD-10, Version 5010 and the Meaningful Use Incentive Programs to create educational materials and conduct outreach to stakeholders. From 2007 to 2010 Jennifer worked at the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). At BIO, she kept members abreast of key FDA regulatory issues of concern, and worked with members to develop responses to agency requests for comments.

Jennifer has a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in political science from the Pennsylvania State University. She also holds a master’s degree in legislative affairs from the George Washington University. Jennifer joined MGMA in early 2011.

Natalie JamiesonWEB

Natalie Jamieson
Government Affairs Analyst

Natalie analyzes the impact of federal legislative and regulatory issues on physician group practices, and develops educational materials, tools, and resources to assist MGMA members with implementation in their practices. Natalie joined MGMA in March 2011.

Prior to joining the association, Natalie worked for a Pennsylvania Senior U.S. Senator in both their district and Capitol Hill offices, where she worked on a wide array of policy issues. She holds a bachelors degree in Political Science from Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, PA.

Rob Tennant

Robert M. Tennant, MA
Senior Policy Advisor

Robert focuses on federal legislative and regulatory health information technology issues, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), electronic health records, electronic prescribing and ICD-10. He participates in numerous industry efforts, including:

  • Board of Directors of the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI)
  • WEDI's Strategic National Implementation Process
  • Certification Commission for Health Information Technology EHR Expert Panel
  • American Health Information Community Consumer Empowerment Workgroup
  • National Uniform Claim Committee
  • e-Health Initiative's Policy Steering Committee
  • Council for Affordable Quality Healthcare CORE initiative
  • Healthcare Administrative Simplification Coalition (HASC)

Robert began his work with MGMA in June 1997.  He received his undergraduate degree from Carleton University and his master's degree from the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Robert also attended the University of Maryland, College Park for Doctoral studies. Robert has also received the WEDI Distinguished Service Award and Leadership in Technology award

Government Affairs Administrative Assistant

Suzanne is responsible for directing phone calls, handling billing and maintaining overall office functionality. She additionally serves as the primary liaison for the Government Affairs Committee and assists in research on a multitude of different issues. She distributes the Washington Connection and is responsible for updating Government Affairs web content.

Prior to joining MGMA, Suzanne interned for a senior U.S. Congressman from Maryland in both his district and Capitol Hill offices.

Suzanne graduated with honors from the University of Maryland in 2012 with a degree in Government and Politics and is currently working towards her Master's in Public Policy at Georgetown University. Suzanne has been with MGMA since 2012.
