The MGMA Center for Research is the research and development division of the Medical Group Management Association and is responsible for conducting quantitative and qualitative research to advance the art and science of medical group management.

The MGMA Center for Research is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, charitable corporation. As such, it has responsibility to serve the public's interests, as well as those interests related to the MGMA membership. The Center for Research is governed by a Board of Directors which is elected by and comprised de facto of the MGMA Board of Directors.

The Center for Research relies on foundation, corporate and government grants and revenue from education programs, publications, software and services provided to MGMA. In addition, the Center is funded from interest earned on its endowment fund. The endowment was established in 1978 and continues to grow through tax-deductible contributions from individuals and corporations.


The mission of the MGMA Center for Research is to continually improve the performance of medical group practice professionals and the organizations they represent.

  • Find solutions to the critical escalation of the cost of medical care.
  • Design, implement and evaluate systems of quality improvement.
  • Develop and evaluate models for ambulatory care delivery.
  • Enhance the quality of care through outcomes research.
  • Collect, analyze and publish information of interest to the public.
